Marketing Monday: Mailchimp

“Email marketing? What is this, 2005?”. Despite the social un-attractiveness of email marketing and it’s coined term of being called “ancient” by many, email marketing still yields a great amount of value when learned about and practiced correctly.

First, let’s focus on a few reasons as to why email marketing should be considered in the first place according to the excellent guide named “Email Marketing Made Simple: A Step by Step Guide”, on the website optinmonster.com.

  1. Email is the #1 communication channel. Did you know that at least 99% of consumers check their email on a daily basis? That can’t be said of any other communication channel.

  2. You own your list. On any social media platform, your account (along with all your fans and posts) could be suspended or deleted at any time, for any reason, without notice. However, you own your email list. No one can take those leads away from you.

  3. Email just converts better. People who buy products marketed through email spend 138% more than those who do not receive email offers. Email marketing has an ROI (returns on investment) of 4400%. That’s huge! And if you are wondering if social media converts even better, think again: the average order value of an email is at least three times higher than that of social media.”

Email marketing drives this point home: the daily user base is consistent and growing. If you’re to use a tool that will yield you the most opens and clicks in the most personable way possible, I would argue that sending emails is as personal as it gets in the online world of marketing. Let us shift our attention to an immensely useful tool that can assist in one’s journey of email marketing, which is Mailchimp.

Mailchimp is a one-stop-shop for creating and sending your marketing campaign to your audience. In fact, Mailchimp is the agency's favorite platform to send our weekly emails. With this service, you're easily able to import your audience, either manually or automatically, and segment individuals to your liking. For example, “Opt-Ins from LeadPage 1” or “Black Friday Shoppers”. In terms of creating a campaign, you can choose from Mailchimp’s custom-crafted templates, or, you can make your own. Inside the content creation of the email itself, you’re given plenty of options to customize your email in whatever way possible. From texts, images, dividers, headers, fonts, social media buttons, and much more, full creative freedom is achieved here! Finally, my favorite part of Mailchimp is its report function. On the overview page, you’re able to see the data in terms of how many people opened your email, and how many links (if there was a link inside in the email) were clicked. Simple but sweet, as this data can gauge how effective one campaign was in comparison to another based on a multitude of variables that one can try out, such as audience type, creative images used, offer, date and day sent, compelling copy, and much more.

Despite the initial unpopularity of email marketing, it is still very much apparent in our digital marketing world, and tools such as Mailchimp make this tool much more user friendly, and more importantly, possible to use for your own business or service!
